I went to Las Vegas in June for my first presentation at a professional conference. In nursing, there are two types of presentations: poster presentations and podium presentation. While I've presented poster presentations of projects and mini-research before, this was the first time I stood at a podium to speak.
I did one 25-minute presentation on "Using Lab Space Creatively" to describe how we use our physical resources in the nursing lab at TCU. It went very well, and there were about 80 people in the audience. When the moderator introduced me, he shared with the group that I recently completed my MSN. So, I felt the liberty to share with the group that this was my very first professional presentation, and they all cheered.
After the "ice was broken," everything went well. My powerpoints were fine, and I felt pretty comfortable speaking in front of the group from the stage. It actually seemed easier than preparing to give a lecture at school! I helped with a second podium presentation with some of my TCU colleagues, so now I'm an old pro at the conference presentations!
Our conference was at the Flamingo Las Vegas, and it is the resort where Donnie and Marie host their show. They were "off" during the week I was in Vagas, but we got to see some other things. I traveled with three other ladies from work!
