Lack of diligence

Posted by: Shawn

I don't think we really knew what we were getting ourselves into by committing to a blog... It is pretty sad when you look at your site and realize that nothing has been updated in almost two months.

Warning: To those that are thinking about blogging, you really have to plan your life around when you can update your blog.

Encouragement: It can be done successfully! We have friends who you have seen on this blog - Mike, Melissa and Noelle Pond (http://www.mandmpond.com/blog/) - who do an incredible job with their blog. Good work, guys!

I did read recently, that the blog service that we subscribe has now added a "mobile" feature. Meaning, we can snap a shot with our camera phones, text the picture to go@blogger.com, and the service will automatically add the pic and text to our blog. That way, we don't necessarily have to be in front of a machine to update.

Goodness! I digress...

In that light, here are a few of our more important updates:

- We started our marriage counseling:

The Costons are leading us through a marriage counseling session leading up to the big date. They have been married 44 years and are members at Christ Chapel - the church Ashley and I attend and the site for our ceremony. I think we will have a total of 6 - 8 sessions depending on the results of a 200 question assessment we took at our first meeting. It is my understanding that we just focus on the areas that are "off" a little based on the assessment.

- Ashley received her dress.

Ashley as quarantined the 'special room' for all wedding paraphernalia, including her dress. Of course, the door is left a mere 3 inches open only to tempt and test my patience. I know the dress is in there and I know I cannot see it. Thus, the mistreatment begins...

- Ashley has taken her bridal portraits.

Of course, I don't know what they look like, nor can I tell you anything about them. The mistreatment continues... I do know that it was the beginning of June and she said it was quite hot (all of the photos were taken outside at the Dallas Arboretum).

- The brides maid dresses are in.

In fact, the reason I am getting to write this update is due to Ashley, Chelsea and Stephanie all shopping for flowers, shoes and jewelry today, while I am left at home to do all the house chores (but it has rained all day, so I can't mow). Thus, the mistreatment continues...

- The invitations are in.

We ordered and received the invitations. They did not come pre-assembled, so I think Ashley is planning a "Fulfillment Party" to stuff and address the invitations. Be on the lookout for yours!

- My office threw us a "Stock The Cellar" wedding shower

William and Michal held the event at their house in Arlington. William is the 'Tincup' in Starr Tincup (www.starrtincup.com) - the place that I work. Bret, who himself is also a bit of wino, bought the stock for the party and what was left over was for Ashley and I to take home. All of the gifts and the left over stock added to 26 bottles of wine. It was a fun, come-and-go time.

As an aside, William and Bret gave Ashley and I a significant wedding gift; two wine refrigerators. Here are some pictures of how we stacked them near the dining table:

- I recently celebrated my three-year anniversary with the company.

Speaking of Starr Tincup, in early May I had been working there three years. Wow!

- We went to see Wicked.

As a Christmas gift, Ashley got three tickets to see Wicked in Dallas. Ashley loves the theater and saw it first when she was living on the East Coast. Her, Chelsea and I all went on a Sunday night to Dallas.

- We went to Heath and Jennifer's wedding.

One of my good friends and Fraternity brother from college were married May 19 in Dallas. I was one of the ushers in the wedding. In all, it was a great time. They had an amazing rehearsal dinner and reception and the ceremony was on the SMU campus.

- Ashley was in Phoenix for 5 days.

Friday - Tuesday, Ashley was in Phoenix for some of her required continuing education credits. As a nurse, she has to have so many hours per year to keep her certifications and this trip was designed for her to achieve some of those credits. I was left at home to do all of the house chores. Yard, wash the cars, grocery store, laundry, house cleaning, dishes, new filters in the a/c unit, new batteries in the smoke detectors and I made Ashley and "Welcome Home" cake.

- Chelsea graduated in May.

Most of Ashley's family was in town for Chelsea's graduation. We had people sleeping everywhere. It was fun to have everyone here to celebrate.

==========

I think that is all that has happened since the last post.

Cheers!
